Set up at the cable pulldown machine and adjust the knee pad so your thighs are firmly secured against the bench.

Grip the lat bar with a wide overhand grip and pull your shoulder blades back and down while bracing your core.

Pull the bar down under control toward your upper chest with your elbows angled down, and keep your chest up without leaning back excessively.

Briefly squeeze your back at the bottom and avoid shrugging your shoulders toward your ears.

Slowly return the bar to the starting position until your arms are almost straight, maintain tension in your back, and repeat.

A common mistake is swinging your torso and pulling with your arms. Start by pulling your shoulder blades down and stay nearly upright.
