Lever Seated Shoulder Press

How to perform

    Adjust the machine seat height so the handles are slightly below your shoulders and your feet are firmly on the floor.

  2. 02

    Sit with your back firmly against the backrest, brace your core, and keep your chest up.

  3. 03

    Grip the handles and press the lever overhead in a controlled motion without letting your shoulders rise toward your ears.

  4. 04

    Lower the lever slowly until your elbows are at about a 90 degree angle, keeping the tension on your shoulders.

  5. 05

    Return for the next repetition, keeping your wrists neutral and using the same range of motion on every rep.

What it should feel like

You should feel it in your shoulders, mainly the front and side delts. It should not feel like a neck or lower back exercise.

Most common mistake

A common mistake is shrugging your shoulders or lifting your back off the pad. Keep your shoulder blades slightly down and your back against the seat.

Keep your shoulder blades lightly pulled back and down throughout the movement. Do not lock your elbows at the top; stop just before lockout.

The seated lever shoulder press loads the shoulders through a stable movement path and is easy to progress gradually.
