Sit in the machine so that the knee pad rests on the top of your thighs and the foot plate is aligned with the balls of your feet.

Place the balls of your feet on the edge of the foot plate about shoulder-width apart, keep your knees bent at approximately 90°, and brace your core.

Raise the weight under control by pushing up onto your toes, and squeeze your calves at the top for 1–2 seconds.

Lower your heels under control into a full stretch over a 2–3 second lowering phase, avoid bouncing, and maintain control throughout the entire movement.

You should feel it in your calves, especially lower down near the ankle. It should not feel painful in your knees or the balls of your feet.
A common mistake is bouncing through the reps. Lower your heels under control and rise smoothly so your calves do the work.

Tips
§ 05 · TipsKeep the movement slow and controlled; avoid using momentum on the way up. Adjust the knee pad and foot plate so the pressure is distributed evenly across the balls of your feet.
Especially effective for isolating the soleus muscle because the knees are bent.
