Sit on the lever lateral raise machine and adjust the seat height so the handles or padded lever arms are at elbow height.

Place your forearms or elbows against the pads and take a firm grip on the handles, pull your shoulder blades back and down, and brace your core.

Raise the lever arms out to the sides using your shoulders, keep a slight bend in your elbows, and stop the movement around shoulder height without using momentum.

Squeeze briefly at the top, then lower the lever arms under control back to the starting position while keeping your shoulders down.

You should feel it in the side of your shoulders. It should not be felt mainly in your neck or wrists.
A common mistake is shrugging the shoulders or swinging the weight up. Keep your shoulders down, lead with your elbows and lift under control.
