Dumbbell Lying Hammer Press

A great exercise for developing the middle portion of the chest and pressing strength with a neutral grip.

How to perform

  1. 01

    Lie on your back on a bench with your feet firmly on the floor, and brace your core.

  2. 02

    Hold a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip (palms facing each other) and lightly pull your shoulder blades together.

  3. 03

    Lower the dumbbells under control to the sides of your chest with your elbows at about a 45 degree angle, and feel the stretch in your chest.

  4. 04

    Press the dumbbells straight up while squeezing your chest and maintaining core tension. Lower them under control for the next repetition.

Keep your elbows at about a 45 degree angle to your torso and avoid flaring them out excessively. Keep your wrists neutral and lightly pull your shoulder blades together during the pressing phase.
