Sit on a bench with your back straight and your feet firmly on the floor, and position the barbell at your upper chest in front of your shoulders.

Grip the barbell slightly wider than shoulder-width, pull your shoulder blades back and down, and brace your core before starting the rep.

Press the barbell straight up overhead using your shoulders, and keep the movement controlled without overextending your back.

Lower the barbell under control back to your upper chest, maintaining tension in your shoulders and keeping your body stable throughout the entire rep.

You should feel it mainly in your shoulders, with some work in the triceps. It should not be felt in your lower back or only in your arms.
A common mistake is arching the lower back to finish the press. Brace your core and press the bar in a controlled straight path overhead.
