Calorie counter app
Short answer
SisuLift is an app with a calorie counter and food diary, available in Finnish and English. Food search uses the Finnish Fineli database and branded products, and calories and macros are counted on the free plan too. Your targets are calculated from your profile, and the calorie target goes up on training days and down on rest days. Barcode scanning and meal recognition from a photo are part of Premium. It works best when you also train at the gym, because your program and your food live in the same app.
There are plenty of calorie counters, and many of them work well if all you want is to log food. This page shows exactly what SisuLift’s calorie counter includes, what is free and who it suits best.

Are Finnish foods included?
Yes. Common foods come from the Fineli database of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, so rye bread, oat porridge and macaroni casserole have Finnish nutrition values. Shop products can be found by brand, and search tolerates typos.
If something is missing, you add your own food once and it shows at the top of your search from then on. For your own recipe, the app calculates the nutrition from the ingredients.
How is the calorie target calculated?
The app estimates your daily burn from your profile: weight, age, how often you train and body fat percentage if you have entered it. Depending on your goal, calories are set about 20 percent below your burn for fat loss, at your burn for maintenance or about 10 percent above it for muscle gain. The protein target is about 2 grams per kilogram of body weight.
Your diet really changes the macro split: on keto carbohydrates stay very low, and on low carb about a quarter of your energy comes from carbohydrates. You can also enter your own targets, and the app splits the macros around them.
On Premium the app compares what you ate with your weight trend over three weeks and suggests your measured burn in place of the calculated one.
How does logging stay fast?
- Copy yesterday’s day or meal with one tap
- Foods you eat often are ready under each meal in your usual amount
- Your own meals and recipes log in one go
- Barcode scanning for shop products (Premium)
- A photo of your plate or a short text description, and the app suggests the foods and grams (Premium)
What does the calorie counter cost?
Calories and macros, food search, your own foods and the training-day target are free. On the free plan your food history shows the last 7 days, and nothing is deleted.
Premium costs €9.90 per month or €79.90 per year and includes the training side too. As a new user you get Premium for 14 days without a card.
Who is this not for?
If you only want to count calories and don’t train, a plain calorie counter is enough. SisuLift’s strength is that food and training live in the same app, and the nutrition side is built for people who train.
If you need guidance from a dietitian, for example because of an illness, the app does not replace that.
Frequently asked
Is SisuLift’s calorie counter free?
Yes. Calories, macros, Finnish food search, your own foods and recipes work on the free plan, where your food history shows 7 days. Premium adds barcode scanning, photo recognition, fibre, salt and sugar and a longer history.
Are Finnish foods and shop products included?
Yes. Common foods come from the Finnish Fineli database and shop products by brand. You can add a missing food yourself.
Can I scan barcodes?
Yes, in the iOS and Android apps on Premium. If a product is not found, you can add it by hand.
Does the app recognise food from a photo?
Yes, on Premium. You take a photo of your plate and the app suggests the foods and grams, which you check before saving. It learns from your corrections, so your own products come out right the next time.
Does it work if I don’t go to the gym?
Yes, but then part of the benefit goes unused. Calories and macros work without training, and steps and other activity come into your daily burn from your watch or phone.
Is my watch’s burn included?
Yes. On iPhone through Apple Health and on Android through Health Connect, the app reads your steps and active energy. Measured burn replaces the estimate, so the same activity is never counted twice.
Does it work on keto or a vegan diet?
Yes. The diet you choose changes your macro targets: on keto the carbohydrate cap is very low, and on a vegan diet the protein target is slightly higher to account for plant protein.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone, Android and the browser, in Finnish and English. Barcode scanning and step sync need the phone app.
