Get into a half-kneeling position at the end of the landmine bar with the bar in front of the pressing-side shoulder and your core braced.

  2. 02

Grip the end of the bar with a neutral grip, keep your wrist straight, and position your elbow slightly in front of your torso.

  3. 03

Press the bar up and forward along an arcing path until your elbow is fully extended and your shoulder is fully engaged without bending through your side.

  4. 04

Lower the bar under control back to the starting position at shoulder height, maintaining core tension and shoulder blade control throughout the movement.

  5. 05

Switch sides and repeat the movement with the other arm.

What it works

Builds the shoulders and pressing strength while training core stability. It carries over well to everyday lifting and other pressing movements.

What it should feel like

You should feel it in your shoulder and a bit in the upper chest, with your core supporting. You should not feel it in your lower back or wrist.

Most common mistake

A common mistake is leaning back and arching the lower back. Keep your ribs down, brace your core, and press the bar up and forward.

Tips

§ 05 · Tips

Keep your ribs down and your pelvis in a neutral position so you don't compensate by arching your lower back. Think about pressing the bar up and forward, not straight overhead.

The landmine press loads the shoulder at a safe angle and is often more shoulder-friendly than a traditional overhead press.
