Looking for honest Aitofit reviews before you subscribe? Smart — Aitofit is one of Finland's most popular gym apps, with 4.9/5 on the App Store and over 2,500 reviews. But what do users actually say once the initial excitement wears off? We went through public reviews on the App Store, Google Play and Kuntosalifit.fi — plus Finnish media coverage (Anna.fi, Tekoälyfoorumi, AI Areena) — and assembled this honest summary of Aitofit's strengths, weaknesses, and who the app actually fits.

TL;DR: Aitofit at a glance

Aitofit Oy is a Jyväskylä-based company founded in 2023. Its developers — Julius Granlund and Tapio Tulenheimo — are sport science M.Sc. graduates from the University of Jyväskylä, specialised in resistance training. Revenue grew from €1.2M in 2024 to €2.6M in 2025 — clearly the app has found its audience. Over 100,000 users, 4.9/5 on the App Store and #8 in Finland's Health & Fitness category tell the same story.

The app is AI-driven: an algorithm analyses your training data and adjusts weights, reps, and sets automatically. You don't decide what to do at the gym — the algorithm does. This is simultaneously Aitofit's biggest strength and its biggest limitation, as we'll see below.

What Aitofit users praise

Reading through hundreds of reviews, five themes came up again and again.

1. Customer support replies fast

Nearly every other review mentions the in-app chat speed. "Customer service 10+/10", "chat replied super fast", "answer instantly" — recurring phrases. Aitofit's chat isn't AI; it's humans (the founders themselves are involved). This is a significant edge over international competitors where support is English-only.

2. Scientific background builds trust

Users value that the program is built by sport science M.Sc. graduates from the University of Jyväskylä. One long-term user wrote: "I really value the science background and continuous development." This sets Aitofit apart from algorithm-based bro-science apps.

3. Easy to use — "don't have to think about anything"

Recurring phrase: "nice that I don't have to think myself what to do and with what weights". The app sets weights, sets, and reps automatically — the user just trains and ticks off reps. Big plus for beginners who don't yet know where to start, but also for experienced lifters who don't want to plan programs.

4. Works for all ages — including 50+ and 70+ lifters

Reviews include surprisingly many older users. "50+", "69 yrs", "works for a 70-year-old" — Aitofit appears to play unusually well in senior demographics. The algorithm adjusts load based on recovery, which helps when recovery isn't a 25-year-old's anymore.

5. Progress index motivates

In Anna.fi's test, the journalist described: "The rising curve significantly increases motivation to train." The app visualises strength progression as a simple index visible after every workout. A small detail, but it shows up repeatedly in praise.

What Aitofit users criticise

Even though Aitofit averages 4.9/5, users have clear wishes and criticism. These five recur consistently.

1. You can't edit set count yourself

Direct quotes from reviews: "can't add sets if you did 3 instead of 2", "can't edit rep count if you did more than planned". The algorithm optimises sets automatically — if you want one extra set or one fewer, it won't let you directly. The developers respond that edits are possible via chat — but this is a major source of friction in daily use.

2. You can't choose your training split

"The only downside is that the user can't choose what split to do (upper/lower, push/pull etc.)." Repeated in several reviews. If you're used to a specific split (push/pull/legs, upper/lower) and don't want the app to decide it for you, Aitofit can feel too restrictive.

3. No rest timer

"I'd give five stars if the app showed optimal rest time between sets (a countdown timer)." Another request: "easy to track rests from a watch" — i.e. users have to track rest time on a separate device. Classic feature available in most competitor apps (including SisuLift) but missing from Aitofit.

4. Logging external workouts is limited

If you do a run, hike, or any other workout outside the app, adding it to Aitofit is awkward. Developers replied in 2024 that this is "coming to the app shortly", but the request still recurs in 2025 reviews.

5. Web-version payment is clunky

Stripe payment requires a separate message to support chat: "send us a message via chat about this." This is unusual for a SaaS product in 2026. Sport benefits (Epassi, Edenred, Smartum) also require chat confirmation. App Store / Google Play payment works directly but costs €14.99/mo due to Apple's 30% commission — i.e. more expensive.

Pricing breakdown: €14.90 launch vs €19.90 standard

Aitofit's pricing needs some clarification. Their landing page says "launch offer €14.90/mo" — but standard pricing is €19.90/mo. If you grab the offer during your trial, you can keep that price (per their own statement). But if you delay subscribing, you may end up paying €19.90.

On the iOS App Store, monthly subscription is €14.99/mo — slightly higher than the web price due to Apple's 30% commission. The App Store also lists longer-term tier options (€79.00 and €149.00), but their exact periods aren't documented on Aitofit's own site — likely 6 and 12 months. User reviews mention price as "a bit too high for my taste" — especially when competitors offer similar AI-powered service for €5–10 less. Versus a personal trainer (€50–100/session), Aitofit is still excellent value.

Who Aitofit is for

Summary from reviews: Aitofit shines for a specific user profile.

  • Beginner or intermediate lifter who wants someone else to decide the workout — "don't want to think about it".
  • Over-40 lifter who values scientific background and recovery optimisation.
  • User who doesn't need offline support and has a credit card or sport benefits (Epassi/Edenred/Smartum).
  • Someone who appreciates fast support via chat and values a Finnish company.

Who Aitofit is not for

Equally honestly: Aitofit isn't the right choice for everyone.

  • You already have training history in another app and don't want to start from zero — Aitofit doesn't support data import from other apps.
  • You want to choose your training split (push/pull/legs, upper/lower) — the algorithm does this for you and you can't override.
  • You need a rest timer between sets directly in the app.
  • You train at gyms with poor connectivity — Aitofit requires an internet connection, doesn't work offline.
  • You want to discuss questions with a coach 24/7 — Aitofit's chat is human chat during business hours, not 24/7 AI chat.

Alternatives when Aitofit doesn't fit

If you read the "not for" list and recognised yourself, Finnish AI-driven alternatives exist.

SisuLift is the clearest alternative to Aitofit: €9.90/mo (~€5/mo cheaper), 14-day free trial (vs 9 days), 24/7 AI chat, offline support, and CSV import from Aitofit. Another Finnish option is Tsemppi (freemium, premium €9.99/mo).

The most important thing is to try. Aitofit has a 9-day free trial without a card; SisuLift has 14. You lose nothing by testing both side by side — and you decide which one fits your training.
